  About the Competition

Michael Hodgson in training for the London marathonThe REEP Garden Awards Scheme is a new project started with £10,000 raised in the first ever London Marathon run for RE. Michael Hodgson, son-in-law of REEP's founder Peter Talbot Willcox celebrated his 50th year by entering the 2002 Marathon in memory of Peter.

Use the Awards to design your own school garden, perhaps as a school, a class or a small team. Gardens and the making of them provide so many links into other curriculum areas that you'll find the experience both enjoyable and educational. Using ICT to send in your entries doesn't just help fulfil curriculum requirements - you'll have the opportunity of publicizing your work on our dedicated 'Good Work' website.

This website is full of ideas to get you started. You could also think about ways in which you can involve local organisations and businesses to develop your scheme further.

THIS WEBSITE WILL BE UPDATED AT REGULAR INTERVALS. KEEP VISITING US!

News and Updates

February 2004: REEP Awards 2004-2005

Diana Lazenby - Director, REEPWe are delighted to announce that Sir Kenneth Carlisle has kindly agreed to chair the panel of Judges in our new round of REEP Awards.

This year sees new categories and these will be announced at the end of February 2004. The closing date, also to be announced, will be during Spring 2005.

Meanwhile, thank you to all those who have already sent in enquiries and begun to think about their possible entries. There's plenty of time for whole schools, classes, after-school clubs and small groups to start looking for spaces great and small that can be transformed into a garden that reflects spiritual and community values, or to think about designing the garden using ICT, or to find new partnerships. Look on last year's site for some starter ideas... AND WATCH THIS SPACE!

September 24th: Prize-giving Ceremony at Wimpole Hall.

September 18th: Winners announced & Prize-giving information.
July 1st: It's all over!
  • The deadline for the Arts categories has now passed. Thanks to all those schools who entered the Garden Awards. Judging is already underway in some categories, so check the web site for news. If you would like to be kept informed by email of news concerning the awards and future events, you can sign up to our email newsletter.
May 31st: Judge's Area online:
  • The Garden Awards judges can access information about the judging panels and the list of entries in the judging area (password protected). If you don't yet have a password, please contact Laura Moffet.
  • May 31st is the last day for entries - We hope everybody has managed to get the entries to us in time! Many thanks to all those who have entered. If you haven't entered, but would still like to be kept uptodate with news of the judging and prizes, you can still use the registration form to add your email address to the Garden Awards mailing list.
April 28th: Deadline Extension:
  • As term begins for most schools on 28th, we realise that some people may have difficulty in getting forms signed before then. If you need extra time, please let us know via email on the 28th. The prize-giving at Wimpole Home Farm will now take place on Wednesday 24th September, later than originally planned, so we are able to be more flexible on closing dates. The closing date for the art sections is, in any case, 30th June.

All entries received will be sent an email confirming that they are complete and that the technology is working. If you have sent an entry and not received a confirmation from us within a fortnight, please email or ring 020 7930 1942 to check the situation.
February 24th: Edinburgh garden seeks designers:
  • The 'Christian Fellowship of Healing' in Edinburgh have contacted us with the idea of a possible collaboration with a school in the area. Their garden is "in great need of a re-vamp" and, although they already have some ideas about the use of biblical, healing and aromatic plants, they would be very interested in working with a school on the design.
If your school lacks space for your own garden, or if you are interested in working with an outside organisation, please contact gardenawards@reep.org and we will put you in touch.
February 2003: New Art category awards and deadline:
  • Thanks to ACE, there are now additional awards in the Art categories. The deadline for entries in both of the Art categories has been extended to June 30th 2003. Please note that this date only applies to the two Art categories.
You can find out more about ACE on the 'Art and Christianity Enquiry' website.
January 2003: Several updates for the New Year:
  • New date for the awards ceremony. The awards will now be presented in September 2003 at Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire. See timetable...

  • Additional awards announced. Guided visits to National Trust gardens and more...

  • Entry form available. Submit your entry using the online entry form and the PDF version.

October 2002: Official Launch:
  • The weekend of the 5/6th October saw the official launch of the Garden Awards. An 'R.E. Teacher's Weekend' organised by Culham Institute provided an ideal opportunity to inform teachers about the competition.
