The
Melchior family live here.
Like many families in the neighbourhood, the parents are from Pakistan,
while their children have been born and brought up in Britain. As
they are Muslim, they don't go to church. Instead, Mr Melchior prays
at the local Mosque, which he helped build, on Fridays and the children
go there every day after school to learn about the Qu'ran.
It hasn't always been easy for the Melchiors. There was a huge struggle
to get the mosque built - many local people objected to such a 'foreign'
structure being built in their neighbourhood. And Mrs Melchior is
worried about her children, who have adopted many habits which she
feels question the traditions of her family.
But Mr Melchior takes part in the local interfaith dialogue group
and Mrs Melchior has become involved with other school parent activities.
They are also friends with their neighbours, the Balthazars, Gaspars
and Kings.
