PRIMARY FEATURE:
CREATION TABLES
CELEBRATING CREATION WITH CREETING ST MARY'S
Children
from Liz Christian's class at Creeting St Mary School made a Creation Table of
their own, using material from the school grounds.
|
Why not make your
own? Here Liz tells us what was achieved and how.
"The various tasks my class completed in relation to the Creation Table covered
RE, literacy, art and design, music, ICT and PSHE. They were as follows: |
 |
- Discuss the creation
story in the Bible (Genesis 1)
- Walk around the
school grounds to search for items of creation. Collect these where possible.
- List on the board
all the items seen and collected. Use them to personalise Dottie
and Buzz's Creation Song
- looking at syllables, rhythm and patterns within the song.
- For the display,
select from the items collected those that would be better pressed, those which
would keep naturally and those which would dry effectively.
- Use examples of
creation in art and design.
- Look at creation
in the light of being 'amazing!' Find facts in non-fiction books to share with
others, showing something YOU personally find amazing and that you didn't know
before. Select the most amazing fact to write inside a speech bubble to hang from
the creation tree. Provide an illustration (Year 3 Term 1 Sentence Level 9) Go
to the Amazing Facts Tree.
- By a voting system
using counters, the class select which designs should be placed on the speech
bubbles.
| This was a most
enjoyable way to use the story of creation. It became a link for the week in the
various subject areas and the final result was a display every member of the class
was proud of because they had all taken part. It was able to stay in the classroom
for a good few weeks due to the 'sorting' of the examples of creation. |
 |
The children thoroughly enjoyed teaching the rest of the school their version
of the Creation Song and were very pleased to sing it in church.
|
 |
This approach
allowed us to see the school grounds as a very valuable resource and we have never
had such fun with sculpture before in this way - all natural and easily selected
and collected by the children immediately!" |
