Primary Science Syllabus
This section outlines the relevant areas of the Science Syllabus.
There are several areas of the Science syllabus that can be enriched using materials on RE and the Environment.
For example, an awareness of ethical and religious issues underlines teaching about:
- the need to treat animals with care
- the implications of sustainable development
- the inter-connectedness of life forms
KEY STAGE 1
HUMANS AND OTHER ANIMALS
Pupils should be taught:
- how to treat animals with care and sensitivity
- about the senses that enable humans and other animals to be aware of the world around them
LIVING THINGS AND THEIR ENVIRONMENT
Pupils should be taught:
- to find out about different kinds of plants and animals in the local environment
- to identify similarities and differences between local environments and ways in which these affect animals and plants that are found there
- Care for the environment
KEY STAGE 2:
LIFE PROCESSES
Pupils should be taught:
- to make links between life processes in familiar plants and animals and the environment in which they are found
LIVING THINGS AND THEIR ENVIRONMENT
Pupils should be taught:
- about ways in which living things and the environment need protection (there are also sections - mainly 'pure science' on adaption, feeding, relationships and micro-organisms)
